Dussehra 2026, also called Vijayadashami, falls on October 1. It celebrates Lord Rama's victory over Ravana and Goddess Durga's triumph over Mahishasura. Towering effigies of Ravana are set ablaze across North India, while South India celebrates it as an auspicious day for new learning.

Significance

Dussehra, literally 'ten defeats' (Dasha-Hara), marks the vanquishing of the ten-headed demon king Ravana. It symbolizes the eternal truth that good always prevails over evil, and dharma over adharma.
